What is AHCC?
Active Hexose Correlated Compound:
Active Hexose Correlated Compound (AHCC) is an alpha-glucan rich nutritional supplement produced from the mycelia of shiitake (Lentinula edodes) of the basidiomycete family of mushrooms.
AHCC has had many scientific studies on the human immune system and may help with many ailments.
How does it work?
AHCC works by building the immune system. As you know, the immune system’s job is to protect you from harm. It is constantly working to locate bacteria, viruses, toxins, parasites and other pathogens that have entered your body, and also checks to see if your cells have mutated and become abnormal.
There are two kinds of immune system functions: innate and adaptive. The innate immunity strikes an immediate attack against a threat, yet is not very specific on how it does so. The adaptive immunity is slower to function, yet when it does, it formulates a precision attack on a specific target with a function just for that particular threat.
In other words, you have a front line, and you also have a tactical team.
Meet the Innate immune system team: The Front Line
Dendritic cells: WBC that present foreign substances to B and T cells, initiating an adaptive response
Natural killer (NK) cells: White blood cells (WBC) that recognize and destroy infected or abnormal cells by injecting granules into them, causing them to explode
Macrophages: WBC that engulf and ingest bacteria and cellular debris
Cytokines: Chemical messengers that help immune cells communicate and coordinate an immune response
Natural killer (NK) cells: White blood cells (WBC) that recognize and destroy infected or abnormal cells by injecting granules into them, causing them to explode
Meet the Adaptive immune system team: The Tactical team
B and T cells: Both B cells (which mature in bone marrow) and T cells (which mature in the thymus) are lymphocytes, WBC that are able to recognize previous invaders and destroy them with a specific response
Health Function of AHCC
In vivo (tested in living organisms) and human clinical trials have shown that AHCC changes and adapts both the innate and adaptive immune response, by:
Increasing the production of cytokines
Increasing the activity of NK cells by as much as 300-800%
Increasing populations of macrophages, in some cases doubling them
Increasing the number of dendritic cells
Increasing the number of T cells by as much as 200%
APPLICATION:
AHCC has been widely used in Japan with great results. Since you are building your immune system to do the work rather than rely on a compound to do it.
